Q: What is electrolysis?
A: Electrolysis is a hair removal method whereby a thin, hairlike probe is inserted into the hair
follicle and through the application of heat and or the creation of a chemical reaction the hair is permanently eradicated.

Q: Is electrology the only method of permanent hair removal?
A:
Yes. Electrology is the only scientifically proven method of permanent hair removal. This statement is backed and approved by
the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA). The FDA identification in Title 21, CFR, Sec. 878.5350 for needle-type
epilators is: "a device intended to remove the hair by destroying the dermal papilla of a hair". No
other device for hair removal has the unique identification of "destroying the dermal papilla of a hair." Only electrologists
are allowed to claim permanent hair removal in their advertising. No other hair removal devices, including lasers, have been
able to achieve this designation.
The permanency of electrolysis has been well recognized in over a century of
use. There is no reputable scientific evidence that shows that there is any other method of hair removal as safe, effective
and permanent as electrolysis.
Temporary methods such as lasers, shaving, tweezing, depilatories,
waxing and threading have been known to result in skin irritations, ingrown hairs, discoloration, and scarring. These methods
have also been known to increase hair growth activity as the hair follicle is stimulated. In turn, in an effort
to survive the hair may come back stronger and darker.

Q: I've had laser performed and now suffer from some hair regrowth. Can electrolysis
help?
A: Yes. Laser is a hair "reduction" method not a permanent solution. Unfortunately many of our
clients have tried lasers for hair removal to no avail. One major problem faced is that in some cases lasers will stimulate
dormant hair follicles to life and create hair growth in areas where none existed before. Another issue with lasers is that
they can cause severe ingrowns when hairs that have not been eradicated cannot surface due to being blocked by scar
tissue created by the laser.

Q: Is electrolysis uncomfortable?
A: Whether there is any discomfort during the process is quite
variable depending on the patient's tolerance, epilator settings and modality used. Discomfort is less likely to occur
with a highly skilled electrologyst using modern equipment and trained in the latest methods available to the profession. During most treatments, a definite sensation should be noticed. It has been variously described as a "slight
heat" or "tingling" sensation. The sensation being felt is the current being applied and not the actual epilation
of the hair. During the electrolysis process hair slides out easily and effortlessly as opposed to tweezing where hair may
break off and one may feel a stinging sensation.
It is impossible to destroy hair growth without sensation when
there is a network of nerve endings surrounding each hair follicle. Never the less adjustments can be made which may help
to make the treatment more comfortable. Most people find the brief sensation of heat to be quite tolerable.
Q: Are all hairs eliminated in one treatment or is re-growth to be expected?
A: Deep, coarse hairs cannot always
be eliminated with one treatment; thus, breaking down the hair germ cells may require additional treatments. During the course
of treatment and due to the cyclical nature of hair growth, new hairs, as well as hairs emerging from a dormant phase will
also be treated and may be visible the same time as finer re-growth hairs.
Other factors affecting length and effectiveness of
treatment are hormonal changes, heredity, normal physiological changes, certain medications, medical history, stress, client's
age, client's tolerance and individual treatment program.
It is important to realize that time commitment and
patience are needed to overcome a problem which took time to develop and will take time to resolve.

Q. What are the side effects caused by electrolysis treatment?
A. Electrolysis does have a
relatively short healing time. Because electrolysis destroys the dermal papilla (hair root) of a hair, it is normal
to experience some slight redness, welting or mild swelling. In most individuals this will disappear within a half hour to
several hours of treatment. At Platinum ElectrolysisTM we use the latest technology in computerized electrolysis to ensure that our clients
don't suffer from extended downtime that may be experienced from treatment with older equipment.
In
some cases electrolysis may cause tiny scabs to form over the treated follicle. These dots are perfectly normal as the healing
process takes place and will not leave permanent damage, provided you do not pick at them, scratch or otherwise cause
them to be infected. An occasional bruise, localized swelling, tenderness and in some cases hyper pigmentation (excess
pigmentation) may occur.
At Platinum ElectrolysisTM we take extra care of our clients prior to starting treatment and after
by prepping the skin in such a way as to minimize down time as much as possible. In fact, our exclusive 6 step after
care process is so meticulous it borders on compulsive!
